ALSA Chapters and News

ALS Association Chapters

The ALS Association chapter is a multi-faceted grass-roots organization that carries out The ALS Association's mission and strategic goals at the community level. The chapter - with supporting services from the National Office - actively pursues The Association's goals by providing a wide range of services for people living with ALS, their caregivers, families and friends as well as professional health care providers throughout the service area. Each ALS Association chapter offers programs that can include many of the following:

 

  • Patient education programs
  • Support groups
  • Telephone information/referral service
  • Equipment loan programs
  • Augmentative communication device programs
  • Respite programs
  • Programs of information and support for caregivers and family members
  • Referrals to ALS clinics and physicians
  • Support nationally-directed research programs
  • Local and nationally-directed advocacy programs

    Take the Extra Step
    Stop by the Advocacy booth at your local Walk to D’Feet ALS® and sign a letter to your Members of Congress urging them to support The ALS Association’s top public policy priorities. 

    In 2003, The ALS Association began soliciting signatures for letters at Walk to D’Feet ALS® "I Took the Extra Step" letter writing campaign is now an official part of the Walk to D’Feet ALS® program.  After each Walk, your local Chapter forwards the signed letters to the Advocacy Department in Washington, DC and the letters are hand-delivered to Congressional Offices.  events that were to be sent to U.S. Senators.  The letters had a tremendous affect on raising overall awareness of ALS on Capitol Hill and they contributed to several significant legislative victories.
